The Society is contracted to undertake assessment of need on behalf of Dundee City Council Social Work Department. The Care Managers are registered social workers. When a person first becomes a client of the Society, they are allocated a Care Manager.

The allocated Care Manager will make arrangements to visit the client in their own home or at the office if preferred .They will be able to provide information that will help the client decide what (if any) assistance is needed. The client will then be offered an assessment of need and a care plan will be agreed to meet individual need.

Client need may be met through services such as rehabilitation services, support on coping with visual loss and welfare benefits. It may be necessary for the Care Manager to refer to other agencies for any assistance such as Occupational Therapy, Social Work Home Care, Housing and other voluntary and care providers.

Any provision of service is carried out with the client's permission and is always voluntary. The care manager will work with the client and the family until they feel that they no longer require our support and at this stage the case will be closed.

Should the client circumstances change they can easily access services to meet any new needs. The Society offer a duty social work service each afternoon from 1pm to 4pm where the care manager will be available to assist with any query .
